The Australian Government has committed $1.5 billion to the Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct.

FOI documents show that petrochemical manufacturing and export are the driving industries behind the precinct. If this project goes ahead, millions of cubic feet of gas will be fracked in the Beetaloo Basin, pumped to Middle Arm, liquified, and exported. The result will be a huge increase in emissions of CO2 and other harmful substances that will damage the health of local residents and our climate. There’s nothing sustainable about this precinct.

Paediatricians are sounding the alarm for how this decision will impact children living in the Northern Territory. From research out of the United States, they are warning that if this decision goes ahead, we will see increased birth defects, stillbirths, asthma presentations, cardiovascular events and deaths.

I invite you to stand with health professionals, concerned parents and the broader community and demand that the Government withdraw support for gas on Middle Arm.

The Rally will occur between 8.00 - 9.00 am, where you will hear from paediatricians, local Indigenous leaders, concerned parents, Senator David Pocock and myself on why this matters
