Kooyong voters made a historic choice at the 2022 federal election; they voted in an independent Member of Parliament for the first time in Kooyong's history.
It's an honour and a privilege to serve the people of Kooyong in Parliament. Here's some of what I've already achieved or contributed to in Parliament, with your support:
- Establishment of Australia's first-ever National Anti-Corruption Commission.
- I’ve introduced the Clean Up Politics Act into Parliament, to make lobbying activity more transparent, and give greater clarity around government decision-making.
- I worked with the government to deliver the Climate Change Act 2022, legislating 2030 and 2050 emissions reduction targets for the first time in Australia's history.
- I’ve raised awareness of the devastating effects of new fossil fuel projects, seismic testing, and native forest logging. I’ve worked for better environmental protections and conservation of endangered species.
- I led a successful campaign for HECS reform which has already saved almost 3 million Australians a total of $3 billion. I’m still working for more improvements to the system.
- I supported legislation for greater investment in housing supply, and I’m pushing for tax reform to improve housing affordability, and more help for first home buyers.
- I successfully advocated for 12-month scripts for hundreds of medicines, making them cheaper for millions of Australians.
- My sustained advocacy led to better access to affordable EVs through introduction of vehicle emissions standards and changes to the luxury car tax.
- I’ve supported legislation for superannuation on paid parental leave, cheaper childcare, more funding for domestic violence services, and better legal protections for women.
- I’m continuing to advocate for better active transport infrastructure for Kooyong.
- I’m providing strong advocacy for refugees and asylum seekers.
- I led a strong campaign on the Voice referendum. Kooyong voted ‘Yes,’ for a legislated Voice to Parliament – with one of the highest votes in the nation. I continue to work with First Nations stakeholder groups towards lasting reconciliation in Australia.
- I’m continuing to work to protect community safety and to foster social cohesion. All Australians deserve to be free from vilification and racism, and from discrimination based on gender identity or sexual preferences.
