Preparing for Parliament

It’s been a busy fortnight out and about — from school visits and community site tours, to events and conversations with locals. It’s also busy in the office, as my team and I prepare for the upcoming parliamentary sitting weeks.

I'll be at Toscano's in Kew today for a pop-office from 10am, so if you've got anything you'd like to speak with your local member about, please come and say hello - I'd love to hear from you!
Rewilding

Last weekend I had the pleasure of joining the Rewilding Stonnington crew at their working bee in Tooronga. This fantastic group of volunteers is working to replant nature strips, pocket parks, and areas around railway stations in Kooyong. They’re playing a vital role in educating and advocating for the inclusion of Indigenous plantings in public spaces in our community.

If you're keen to join them for some therapeutic outdoor activities - I'd highly encourage signing-up!

AFR

This week I wrote in the Australian Financial Review about the need for the Australian government to improve the speed and effectiveness of our medicine and devices approvals and funding pathways. Given the geopolitical uncertainty around tariffs and trade, it's really important we optimise domestic regulatory settings and healthcare delivery.

Read it here: Donald Trump tariff war is not the only threat to cheap PBS medicines

Community Highlights

Last week I joined Mayor Sophie Torney, Cr Michael Nolan, and Labor MP Ryan Batchelor at the Willsmere Road/Earl Street roundabout in Kew, to hear from residents about a long-standing and deeply felt safety concern.

This roundabout sits at the end of a long stretch of Earl Street with no safe pedestrian crossing. It’s a daily hazard for families walking to school, older residents, people with disabilities, and anyone trying to cross on foot or by bike. I'm working with Council and the state government on how we can improve safety at the crossing.

I know there are other sites around Kooyong which need attention to improve safety and accessibility. If you have concerns about your area, please don’t hesitate to contact my office. I’m committed to working with all levels of government to ensure community safety.

One of the best parts of being the Member for Kooyong is visiting local schools. We’re incredibly fortunate to have so many wonderful schools in our community.

In recent weeks I've had the pleasure of joining the celebrations for Balwyn North Primary School’s 75th anniversary, participating in a politics Q and A with the Member for Kew, Jess Wilson MP, at Balwyn High, and dropping in to Glenferrie Primary with a special visitor—my cavoodle, Alfie!  Alfie was very keen to hear all about the recent Grade 5/6 Canberra camp, and very grateful for all the pats and attention he received.

Chinese Culture Day

It was so fun to join more than 500 secondary students, their teachers, senior members of the Chinese-Australian community, the Ambassador and Consul General, to celebrate Chinese Culture Day this Monday.

We have also been running our regular Chinese community information sessions our next session is on Household waste recycling. For those interested you can find details here.

That's this fortnight's round up, folks!

Until next time, when we''ll be back in Canberra,
Mon
