Young people aged 16 and 17 have the same cognitive ability as older Australians and should have the same right to vote, according to a group of federal MPs.
The politicians stood alongside young people in Parliament House for the launch of the Make It 16 campaign, which calls for compulsory voting for 16 and 17 year olds, but with the caveat that under 18s will not be fined if they fail to cast their ballot.
